Hiking, bug collecting & for Preston a swim in the lake!

Our Hike in Ponderosa State Park ended abruptly without the picnic, thanks to Preston's

"photo op" gone terribly wrong!

We went down to the lake so Benny could release the frog he found on the hike. Preston said "take my picture". I looked over at him flexing his muscles on this large boulder in the lake, which he had climbed out on a dead log to climb up on the boulder (it was a great picture). I looked for my camera but couldn't find it, so he started back in towards us. I then found it so he started back to his rock. I turned it on to take the picture, looked up, expecting that he would be posing again, but he was not there. Preston had slipped off the log & into the lake (which still had ice in it only about two weeks earlier, burrrr!) He climbed out, we stripped him down, and layered him with all our extra layers. We will just wait here for the car, hike over no picnic. Oh well, it was getting cold & windy anyway.

Grandma gave all the kids cases for a bug hunt on our hike. Macall used hers to collect "nuts" and pinecones. Along our hike Macall collected flowers in her hair too.

AMAZING PHOTOS OF MACALL!!!!

Yes that's Macall smiling while she holds the frog! It's the same Macall that one week earlier let Preston put some creepy centipede looking bug on her arm and was OK with it crawling up her arm. This is great because last summer she rarely would go outside to play because bugs live outside.

Notice the long sleeves & sweats, the picture was taken May 27, 2008. This was a weird spring of cool weather.

Top Reader!

The last day of school, as any mother knows, can be pretty crazy! For me this year it was no exception, I was scrambling to throw together my last minute teacher gifts, and Madeline's class party (which I was in charge of) and I had half the day to accomplish it because it was an early release. Needless to say I didn't go to the school awards assembly. I didn't think my kids were getting any awards. Boy was I ever wrong.

Fast forward to the end of school as I went to deliver Preston's teacher's gift. She said she handed out the awards in their class for all the students who accomplished their A.R.(Accelerated Reader) goals. She said she felt bad as she handed all of them out and had nothing for Preston, who was the top reader in the class. She said she knew he was going to be getting his award in front of the school at the assembly, but because it was a surprise she couldn't tell him. Then they went to the assembly and he got his award. "Highest A.R. Achiever in the First Grade" (out of 4 first grade classes)! Not only did he get a certificate, but a trophy too! I wish I knew he was getting an award, I would have loved to have seen his face. Good job Preston!
